Russell Lee Pope, age 82, of 1357 Pleasant Valley Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2003 following a brief illness. A native of Ashe County, North Carolina, Russell was born March 25, 1921 to the late Edward and Pansy Angel Pope. Russell was a former sawmill worker and enjoyed hunting. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Thurman Pope. Russell is survived by: His ex-wife, Joan Pope, Mountain City, Tennessee (3) Daughters: Wilma Dyer & Husband Shirl, Roan Mountain, Tennessee Willa Deane Parlier and Husband Charles, Mountain City, Tennessee Wanda Cress and Husband Tommy, Mountain City, Tennessee (1) Son: Bill Pope and Wife Joyce, Mountain City, Tennessee (5) Sisters: Irene Woodie, Salsbury, North Carolina Shirley Rash, Todd, North Carolina Vollyree Wilkason, Lincoln, Nebraska Lois Horne, Mountain City, Tennessee Hazel Lewis, Mountain City, Tennessee (4) Brothers: Johnny Pope, Lynchburg, Virginia Willard Pope, Creston, North Carolina Wilmer Pope, Lynchburg, Virginia Delmer Pope, Creston, North Carolina (7) Grandchildren: Kimberly Crosswhite, Greg Pope, Brian Dyer, Shannon Poe, Alisha Kelley, Matthew Cress and Chad Parlier Several Nieces and Nephews Funeral Services for Russell Lee Pope, age 82, of 1357 Pleasant Valley Road, Mountain City, Tennessee will be held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2003 from the Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Mr. Jim Hutchinson and Rev. Spencer Roark to officiate. Family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. prior to services. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2003 from the Phillippi Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nephews and Grandsons. Family will receive friends at the residence of Wanda and Tommy Cress, 1436 Pleasant Valley Road, Mountain City, Tennessee.
