Obituary for: Ms. Ruth Grindstaff. Ms. Ruth Grindstaff of 5468 Roan Creek Road, Mountain City, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 01, 2013 at her residence. Ruth was a Johnson County native where she had lived all her life. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Lillie Shull Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers: Don Grindstaff, Robert Grindstaff, and A.D. Grindstaff and a sister, Hazel G. Jones. She was a Graduate of Johnson County High School and East Tennessee State University; she taught school in Johnson County for 45 years and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Johnson County. She was active in the Neva elementary school PTA. Ruth enjoyed being outside and working in her garden and flowers and she also loved quilting and sewing. She was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church where she at one time taught the primary Sunday school class. Survivors; one sister, Rosa Ward, Mountain City, Tennessee, several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Ms. Ruth Grindstaff will be conducted on Sunday, January 6th 2013 at 2:00 pm from the Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Penley, Rev Carl Swift, Rev. Rick Thomason and Dr. Dan Little officiating, Music will be under the direction of Roy Roach and Patty Watson. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Charlie Grindstaff, Danny Grindstaff, Justin Grindstaff, Jerry Grindstaff, Benny Grindstaff, Blake Grindstaff, Travis Grindstaff, Dakota Grindstaff, Joe Grindstaff, Billy Ward, Mark Ward, Wayne Vaught, Joshua Vaught, Robert Cunningham, Donnie Hampton, and Charlie Cutlip. Honorary pallbearers will be Men's Sunday school class, Dr. John Whitlock, Wes Holly, Rex Greene, Joe Greene, and Craig Thomas. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the I.C.U. Staff at the Watauga Medical Center of Boone, N.C. and the nursing staff of the second floor at the Johnson City Medical Center. Flowers are accepted or in lieu of flowers for those who wish donations may be made to the Pine Grove Baptist Church or the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683 Friends may call at the residence of her nephew, Danny Grindstaff 162 Willow Circle, Mountain City at anytime.
