Ruth Matherly Reece

Ruth Matherly Reece, age 94, of 3051 Flat Springs Road, Elk Park, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2005 in the Watauga Medical Center, Boone, NC following a brief illness. She was a native of Butler, TN but had made her home in Avery County most of her life. She was born June 5, 1911 to the late Blaine and Winnie Wagner Matherly and was preceded in death by her husband Ted Reece also by a son Max Reece, two sisters; Anna Mae Arney, Lou Venna Matherly and four brothers; Van, Earl, Dale and Claude Matherly. She was a Housewife and a member of the First Christian Church in Butler but attended the Mount Gilead Baptist Church. She loved her family, Gardening, Sewing and Cooking. Survivors: include three daughters; Madelyon and husband Paul Harmon, Mary Lou Reece and Katie and husband Verlin Harmon all of Elk Park, NC. Two sons; Billy Joe Reece and wife Linda of Hickory, NC, Darryel Reece and wife Margaret of Elk Park, NC. One brother, Ted Matherly of Butler, TN, twelve grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews and a special friend, Mrs Rose Bunton. Funeral services will be held 2:30 P. M. Saturday, September 3, 2005 from the Henson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Quincy Norris and Rev. Derrick Wilson to officiate. Burial will follow in the Mount Gilead Cemetery Pallbearers will be Grandsons The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:30 P. M. Saturday from the Henson Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may call at the Funeral Home or the family residence, 3051 Flat Springs Road, Elk Park, NC at anytime.
