Sam W. Gentry, age 78, of 351 Pinecrest Street, Mountain City, TN, passed away October 28, 2003 at his residence due to an extended illness. A native of Johnson County, he was born January 11, 1925 to the late James David Gentry and late Rosa Cornett Gentry. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son; Gregory Paul Gentry, who passed away November 2000 and two brothers; Shelton Gentry and Walter Gentry. Sam enjoyed fixing up cars, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and the VFW Post # 1287 of Orlando, Florida. He was a Veteran, having served in the United States Army during WW II where he earned two Bronze Stars. Sam is survived by his wife, Margaret S. Gentry, of the home, one daughter; Melba Shelton of Mountain City, Tennessee, one sister; Virginia Johnson of Greenville, Tennessee, and brother; James D. Gentry of Bristol, Tennessee, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many special friends several nieces and nephews. Military Graveside Services for Sam. W. Gentry will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 01, 2003 by the Johnson County Honor Guard from the Sunset Memorial Park. James M. Swoager will officiate. Pallbearers will be WadeLewis, Dean Gentry, Chad Wilber, Brian Shelton, Joe Lewis and Jessie Gentry. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Mike Caplin and Dr. Kevin Scott Cornwell.
