Obituary for: Sam C. Nelson Sam C. Nelson, age 75, of 2607 Cold Springs Road, Mountain City passed away Saturday July 3, 2004 at the Watauga Medical Center in Boone following a brief illness. He was a native of Johnson County and was born June 19, 1929 to the late John King Nelson, Sr. and Cora Ann Smith Nelson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Nelson and two sisters, Cricket Dickens and Vadie Mills. Mr. Nelson was a retired truck driver and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include three daughters: Delores Hedrick and husband, Mike, of Boone, NC., Kendra Hodge of Easton, MD. and Sonya Proffitt and husband, Joe, of Mountain City; a son , Jeff Nelson and wife Bonnie of Mountain City; three sisters: Reba Wills, Chelsa Jones and Danford Smith all of Mountain City; a brother, John King Nelson, Jr. of Mountain City; Ten grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and his special friends: Larry Snyder, Norman Pleasant, Boyd Fletcher, Wiley Tester, Brownie Blankenbeckler and Carl Jones also survive. Funeral services for Sam C. Nelson; will be held 8:00 P. M. Tuesday from the Henson Funeral Home with Pastor Kenny Newberry and Mr. Jim Hutchinson to officiate. Graveside services will be held 11:00 A. M. Wednesday from the Phillippi Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jeffrey Nelson, Jack Hackney, Ernie Hodge, Christopher Proffitt, Justin Nelson, Josh Hodge, Jonathan Hedrick and Noah Nelson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Nelson, Timmy Nelson, Johnny Nelson and Bobby Nelson. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 P. M.
