While at his home, Samuel Scott Taylor, age 64, departed this earth on 3-29-2011. Sam went into the arms of his loving Heavenly Father, who had prepared a place for him in Heaven. Sam was a lifelong resident of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee. Sam was a Christian and a faithful member of St. John's United Methodist Church. He served as Sunday School Superintendent for 25 years. He was currently the teacher of the Young Adult Sunday School Class. Sam was also a certified Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church. Sam was proud to serve his country in the United State Marine Corps. He served in San Diego, California, as well as Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Sam was one of the founders of the First District Fire Department and served many years as a volunteer fireman. The fire department honored him with a lifetime membership on December 7, 2008, for his service. Sam was retired from the United States Postal Service having served as a rural mail carrier. He served as the president of the Johnson County Rural Letter Carrier Association. Sam had been a very dedicated carrier for many years and made many lifetime friends along his route. Sam was an active member of the Johnson County Republican Party having served as the Vice Chairman. Sam worked his entire life on his family farm along with his brother Eric. He enjoyed raising cattle and watching nature. In 1980, he was awarded the Outstanding Conservation Farmer Award. In his spare time Sam loved to spend time along the banks of Laurel Creek. He was an avid fly fisherman. Sam was preceded in death by his father Walter Taylor and his mother Ruth Hawkins Taylor, both of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee. Sam was a very devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandparent, and friend. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Jane Loggins Taylor. Also surviving are three children: Nancy Taylor Wilson and husband Bruce of Garrett Indiana; Rhonda Taylor Tuttle and husband Jack and grandchildren Megan, Emily, Nicholas, Zachary all of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee; Brian Scott Taylor and wife Heather and grandson Owen all of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee. Sam has one brother Eric Taylor and wife Debbie with nieces and nephew: Leigh Anne, Evan, Mary Beth all of Laurel Bloomery Tennessee. His mother-in-law Dora Shoun Loggins of Mountain City, Tennessee and his sister-in-law Janette Eastridge of Mountain City Tennessee and niece Jennifer Shelton of Elizabethton Tennessee. The family will receive friends on 4-2-2011 at 6:00pm at the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be 4-3-2011 at 2:00pm at St. John's United Methodist Church of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee. Pastor Tom Prater and retired minister Warren Stewart will be officiating. Music will be under the direction of the church choir. A military graveside service will be conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard at Acres Field Cemetery, Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee. Active pallbearers will be Kerry Gentry, Mike Warden, Paul Blevins, Ronnie Gentry, Ronnie Sutherland, Terry Reid, Van Neely, Ken Phipps, and Wade Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Alfred Holman, James Farris, James Gentry, Ronnie Garland, and members of Sam's Sunday School Class. Hux-Lipford Funeral Home is serving the Taylor family.
