Sanford Smith, age 80, of 687 Corner Road, Mountain City passed away, Friday, December 19, 2003, in the Watauga Medical Center, Boone, North Carolina following a lengthly illness. He Was a native of Johnson County and was born June 3, 1923 to the late Dan and Susan Simpson Smith. He was a retired Mechanic, Electrician and worked for Burlington Industries for 14 years. He was preceded in death by (1) Son, Ronald Rasty Smith, a Grandson, Kevin Pardue and (2) Brothers, Luther and Robert Smith. He was a U. S. Army Veteran having served in World War II and was a Member of the Liberty Christian Church. Survivors: Wife of "56" Years, Norene Payne Smith, of the Home (1) Daughter: Eunice Snyder and Husband Scott, of Mountain City (2) Sisters: Ruth Payne, Mountain City Hazel Cress, Mountain City Anna Bess Fenner, Smithville, Ohio (3) Brothers: Paul Smith, Smithville, Ohio Fred Smith, Stoney Creek, Tenn. (2) Grandchildren: Steven Pardue, Mountain City Brian Pardue, Mountain City 2 Great Grandchildren, Several Nieces and Nephews Henson Funeral Home in charge of Arrangements. Funeral services for Sanford Smith, age 80, of 687 Corner Road, Mountain City will Be held 2:00 P. M. Monday from the Liberty Christian Church with Mr. Jim Hutchinson To officiate. Burial will be in the Phillippi Cemetery Pallbearers will be: Tommy Cress, Raymond Cress, Jamie Cress, Tommy Payne Jr., Matthew Cress and Dick Lindsey. The family will receive Friends from 1 till 2:00 P. M. Monday at the Liberty Christian Church. Friends may call at the Residence, 687 Corner Road, Mountain City at Anytime.
