Shane Matherly

Shane Matherly, age 38, of 168 B Johnson Road, Mountain City, TN passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014 in Bristol Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 25, 1976 to "Jay" Matherly and Eileen Howes Matherly of Butler, TN. Shane was a member of Rainbow Mennonite Church. He enjoyed radio control airplanes, blacksmithing, fishing and spending time with his family. Shane also was a youth basketball coach and a Cub Scout leader. Shane was well loved by everyone who knew him. He was a loving husband and devoted father. Because of his fun-loving, mischievous nature and brilliant sense of humor, he will always have a special place in the hearts of those who knew him. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife Christy Dunn of the home; three sons: Andrew, Kyman and Jackson Matherly, one sister: Sheila Matherly of Butler, TN; one brother: Eric Matherly of Butler, TN; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Bob Dunn and Lois Dunn of Mountain City, TN; nieces and nephews: Grace, Reese and Jay Young; special friend: Dottie Harmon; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2014 from the Rainbow Mennonite Church with Rev. Gary Gambill and Steven Long officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. prior to the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Poole, George Robinson, Eric Matherly, Justin Howes,Charlie Howes and Jeff Young.
