View This Video Tribute Shelba “Jean” Phillips, age 71, of 380 Doeville Road, Butler, TN passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010 in Watauga Medical Center, Boone, NC following an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Chester A. Davis and Nell Fugate Davis. She was a member of Little Doe Baptist Church. “Jean” enjoyed meeting with her friends at Larry’s Doe Valley Food Mart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Sanford Davis, and one sister, Elsie Arney.
Survivors include: one daughter: Carla Phipps and husband Michael of Fleetwood, N.C. two sisters: Gertrude Wood of Mountain City, TN and Edith Atwood and husband Ed of Doylestown, OH; one granddaughter: Lindsey Jaye Phipps and several nieces and nephews. Special friends Novella Grindstaff, Martha Blake, Ruby Price and Dot Canter also survive.
Funeral services for Ms. Phillips will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel with Minister Kreg Smith officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Larry Wood, Terry Atwood, Wayne Parker, Carl Phillips, Michael Phipps and Bill Phipps. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Rainbolt, Richard Cable, Dr. John Whitlock, Dr. Kevin Wolfe, and all her friends from Larry’s Doe Valley Mart. Graveside service and interment will be held in Sunset Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 9 2010. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
