Shirley Ann Poteet

Shirley Ann Poteet, age 73, of 1375 Huggins Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2007 at the Mountain City Care Center following an extended illness. She was born on July 24, 1933 to the late Hulon Taylor and Alma Ruth Lane Taylor Brammer. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, R.H. "Dick" Poteet, who passed away on December 23, 2006. She was a retired Schoolteacher with the Brevard County School System of Florida, member of the Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Post #61 and the VFW Post #6908. Shirley was a member of Liberty Christian Church and a member of the Ladies Aid at the church. She enjoyed reading, doing crafts and was an avid Florida Gators Fan. Shirley was a United States Navy Veteran. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law: Rick Poteet, Tim Poteet and wife Pam, all of Mountain City, Tennessee and Scott Poteet and wife Sabrina of Knoxville, Tennessee; two sisters: Bonnie Fultz and Marilyn Peters, both of Sarasota, Florida; one grandson, Cody Poteet of Mountain City, Tennessee; three granddaughters: Beth Poteet of Mountain City, Tennessee; Hannah Poteet and Jada Poteet, both of Knoxville, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Shirley Ann Poteet will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2007 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel with Mr. Jim Hutchinson and Rev. Maurice Widener to officiate. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the Services at the funeral home. Military Honors and Interment will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2007 from the Phillippi Cemetery, accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers will be: Mike Poteet, Russ Poteet, Shane Poteet, Travis Poteet, Cody Poteet, Jason Poteet, Frank Arnold, John Bowman, Greg Jones & Adam Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers are: Dr. Raina Sluder, Melissa Wilson and Dr. Robert Snyder. Donations may be made in Shirley's memory to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, TN 37683.
