Spencer Eugene Dowell, age 71, of Butler, TN and formerly of Pennsylvania, passed on Sunday, February 15, 2004 in the Johnson County Health Center due to natural causes. A native of Forge Creek in Johnson County, TN, he was born August 18, 1932 to the late Spencer R. and Olive Mae Hammonds Dowell. Mr. Dowell was a Korean War Army Veteran, who retired from Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. He was of the Baptist faith, loved antiques, hunting, fishing and bowling. Survivors include his wife, Irene Szablowski Dowell; three sons: James R. Dowell and wife, Rhonda of Landisville, PA, Spencer A.Dowell and wife, Crystal of Nottingham, PA and Kenneth A. Dowell and wife, Christine of Columbia, PA; two sisters: Lois Daughtery and Virginia Osborne; two brothers: Carl Dowell and Herbert Dowell; five grandchildren: Kelly, Josh, Keith, James and Jennifer. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 8 p. m. Wednesday from the chapel of Henson Funeral Home. Rev. Frank Woods will officiate. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery at Forge Creek. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p. m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, TN 37683.
