Stanley E. Alderson of 2543 Slabtown Road, Mountain City, TN passed away unexpectedly on February 27, 2015 at his residence. Stan was born in Palo Alto, California on September 27, 1951 to Donald John and Janet Greene Alderson. He graduated from high school in Springfield, Virginia and attended the College of William and Mary on an Army ROTC scholarship. Stan wrestled and played rugby in college and majored in history. After college he was commissioned into the U.S. Army, where he served for four years, primarily stationed in Germany. After his tour in the military, Stan went to law school, graduating from the University of Virginia. He went to work for the Civil Division of the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. where he handled a number of significant challenges to federal programs and specialized in civil procurement fraud litigation. He was known by his colleagues and opponents for his dogged and unrelenting efforts in litigation, especially when seeking to obtain recoveries for the United States in fraud cases. Stan met his wife Mona Butler Alderson, originally from Mountain City, while they both were working at the Department of Justice. Stan retired in January 2012, and moved to Johnson County, adopting his wife's home as his own. He loved living in Doe Valley. Stan was especially proud to have been accepted by the members of the Doe Valley Sportsmen's Association and loved going bear hunting and helping with hunts. Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Janet Alderson. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mona; daughter Julia Gwyn Alderson of Weems, Virginia; and son Donald Butler Alderson of Blacksburg, Virginia. He loved and was so proud of them. He is also survived by one brother Doug Alderson (and wife Debbie) of Myersville, MD; and one sister Barbara Alderson (and husband Dr. BN Ragavendra) of Malibu, CA. The family will receive friends Monday, March 2, 2015 from 12:30 - 1:30 from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be members of the Doe Valley Sportsmen's Association. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Lowe, Doug Alderson and Raphael Gomez. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stan's name to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, TN 37683 or to the charity of your choice.
