Stanley Dean Snyder, Sr.

Stanley Dean Snyder, Sr., age 79, of 11049 Hwy 421 North, Shady Valley, Tennessee passed way Wednesday, February 20, 2008 in Watauga Medical Center, Boone, North Carolina. Stanley was the son of Von Snyder and Hester Price Snyder Sluder. Mr. Snyder was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Shady Valley, Tennessee. He was a retired restaurant manager and he loved working in the garden and around the house, fishing and attending church.
Mr. Snyder was a United States Army veteran having served in the Korean War. He received the Purple Heart along with other honors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Sherry Snyder Brower, and one great granddaughter, Carrie Olivia Snyder.
Survivors include four daughters: Kay Checz, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Shelby Snyder Elmore and husband Charles of Siler City, North Carolina; Sheila Snyder of Siler City, North Carolina; Shannon Snyder Robinson and husband Wes of Randleman, North Carolina: three sons: Stanley Dean Snyder, Jr. and wife Betty of Shady Valley, Tennessee; John Snyder and wife Sonja of Bryant, Alabama; and Chuck Snyder of Charlottesville, Virgina; one brother: Burl Lee Sluder, Jr. and wife Connie of Elizabethton, Tennessee; special friends: Jack Hutchins, Eddie Porter, Scotty Gentry and the late Taylor Scott; nineteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Stanley Dean Snyder, Sr. will be held at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February, 21, 2008 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Porter officiating. Active pallbearers will be Stanley Dean Snyder, Jr., Stanley Dean Snyder III, Charles Elmore, David Wallace, Timothy Sluder, Scotty Gentry, John Snyder, Mike Robinson, Tom Hensley, Tom Hensley Jr. and Tom Hutchinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Hutchins, Jim Hutchinson, Alton Sluder, Kenneth Sluder, Men of Victory Baptist Church, Doug Hornsby and Staff of Mountain City Care Center. Military graveside service accorded by Johnson County Honor Guard will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2008 in Shady Valley Memorial Gardens in Shady Valley, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2008 prior to the services.
At other times friends may call at the residence of his son, Stanley Dean Snyder, Jr, 899 Sluder Road, Shady Valley, Tennessee.
