Thelma Eastridge

Thelma C. Eastridge, age 87, of Mountain City, TN passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Mountain City Care Center. She was the daughter of the late Roby James Shoemake and Flora Huggins Shoemake. Mrs. Eastridge was born in Ashe County, NC on September 14, 1925 and had made her home in Mountain City for the past fifty-three years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse William Eastridge, who passed away in 1988; three brothers: Worth, Spencer and Wayne, as well as four sisters: Dorothy, Elsie, Edna and Stella. Mrs. Eastridge was a member of First Christian Church. She will be remembered for her warm smile, the many years of selfless caring she provided to her invalid brother and aging father, and her ability to make anyone who entered her home feel warmly welcomed. Spring was her favorite season and she loved her flowers, gardening and homemaking. Her endearing quick wit brought unexpected laughter to lives of those around her. Survivors include her daughter and best friend, Linda Eastridge-Jordan of Dallas, TX and two brothers: Dayton Shoemake and Herman Shoemake, both of Mountain City. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. The family would like to acknowledge the loving attention, compassion and comfort she received from the nurses and nursing assistants of Mountain City Care Center and also acknowledge their heartfelt gratitude to Laura Lee South and niece Ruth Potter whose care and attention enabled her to remain in the comfort of her home as long as possible. Deep gratitude is also expressed to Dr. John Whitlock and physician assistant, Daniel Jones for the excellent medical care she received. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 2, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m in the East Side Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 from First Christian Church of Mountain City with Pastor Scott Plyler and Rev. Steven Spencer officiating.Pallbears will be Bob Eller, Glen Parsons, Kenneth Barnes, Dayton Shoemake, Steve Spencer, and Kevin Parsons. She will be laid to rest beside her loving husband of forty-six years at Sunset Memorial Park following the graveside service.
