Mrs. Thelma Cole Pierce, age 87, of 577 Highway 91, Shady Valley, TN, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 at the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Shady Valley, Tennessee, she was born on January 19, 1920 to the late Landon and Blair Gentry Plummer, and was preceded in death by her husband's Edgar P. Cole who passed away in 1957 and Allen Pierce who passed away in 1976, four brothers, Lloyd Plummer, Dennis Plummer, Wade Plummer and Sam Plummer, and one sister Opal Allen. She was a member of the Shady Valley Presbyterian Church where she served as a former treasurer for many years and a member of the Ladies Circle. A homemaker and farmer, she enjoyed working in her garden and quilting. Survivors include one son, John Cole and wife, Diane of Shady Valley, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Josh Cole and wife, Misty of Jonesboro, Tennessee, Wes Cole of Asheville, N.C, and Kati Cole of Shady Valley, Tennessee, one great-grandson, Alex Cole; three brothers, Ford Plummer and wife, Judy of Lebanon, Tennessee, Jack Plummer of Shady Valley, Tennessee and Jim Plummer and wife, Betty of Shady Valley, Tennessee; one sister; June Dennison and husband, Jack Dennison of Bristol, Virginia; one step-daughter, Capriece Howard and husband Earl of Shady Valley, TN; several nieces and nephews and special friend Georgia Bentley. Funeral services for Mrs. Thelma Cole Pierce will be held on Friday, March 16, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. from the Shady Valley Presbyterian Church with Dr. Thomas Peake and Dr. Dan Little officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday from Shady Valley Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends on Friday, March 16, 2007 from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm from the Shady Valley Presbyterian Church. Pallbearers will be Richard Watson, Vance Gentry, Norman Taylor, Dick Rider, Dean Gentry, Stephen Tolliver, Paul Martin. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Scott, Neal Bennett, Junior Gentry, Cole Howard The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Pat Campbell, Judy Howard, Rebecca McGlothlin, and the Shady Valley Senior Center Nutritional Volunteers. Friends may also call at the home of John and Diane Cole, 693 Highway 91, Shady Valley, Tennessee, at any time.
