Thelma Virginia Simcox, age 82, of 2448 Crackers Neck Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at her residence with her loved ones by her side. A native of Johnson County, Tennessee, she was born on July 8, 1922 to the late Walter O. and Martha Tester Sheets. Thelma was known as "Goggie" to her family and friends and was famous for her homemade rolls and pies, which she made and distributed to everyone in the community. She could be found anywhere she was needed; helping to care for the elderly and sick. Because of Thelma's caring spirit, she was awarded the Person of the Month plaque by Beta Theta in 2000. She was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, James Palmer Simcox, who passed away in 1975, one daughter, Judith Lorraine Fenner, who passed away in 1983, one sister, Bonita Jewell and five brothers: Joe, Thurman, Mark, Marvin and Everette Sheets. She was also preceded in death by three very dear friends: Maxie Hammons, Lizzie Rhymer and Georgia Ward. Thelma is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Teresa and Johnny Arnold of Mountain City, Tn; seven grandchildren: Tammie Fenner, Mike Fenner and wife Sherrie, Blake Fenner and wife Chanda, Jill Penley and husband Mike; all of Mountain City, Tn, Kelli Sluder and husband Kenny of Shady Valley, Tn, Cindy Fritts and husband Troy of Orange Park, Fl and Bridgette Harry and husband Kenneth of Sanford, N.C. and twelve great grandchildren, whom she adored. Thelma is also survived by two sisters: Ellarose Barnes of the home and Very Nikazy of Elizabethton, Tn and two brothers: Eugene Sheets of Mountain City, Tn and Mike Sheets of Hickory, N.C. Funeral Services for Thelma Virginia Simcox will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2005 from Central Baptist Church with her Pastor, Rick Thomason and her Grandson, Mike Fenner to officiate. Music will be under the direction of the Central Baptist Church Choir. The family will receive friends 6-8:00 p.m. Monday, prior to Services, at Central Baptist Church. Graveside Services and Interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2005 from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Grandsons-in-law: Blake Fenner, Mike Fenner, Troy Fritts, Kenny Sluder, Mike Penley and Kenneth Harry. Honorary Pallbearers are: Jackie Ward, Steve Palmer, Rick Westmoreland and Thelma's nephews.
