Theodore "Toots" Roberts, age 72, of 1315 Slab Town Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at the James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born January 16, 1932 to the late Walter Clyde and Ella Mae Roberts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Roberts and Lonnie Roberts and one sister, Caroline Wright. Toots was a former employee of the United States Forest Service and a farmer. He loved to coon hunt and bear hunt and he was a treasurer of the Doe Valley Sportsman Club. Toots was a member of the Doe Valley Baptist Church where he was also a Teacher for the Adult Sunday School Class. He was an ordained Deacon. Toots was a World War II Veteran having served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Johnson County Honor Guard and the Veterans of Foreign Wars- Post 6908. Toots is survived by his wife Vernie Hazel Roberts; four sisters, Peggy Hawkins, Lois Wilson, Eva Horne, all of Mountain City, Tennessee and Dorothy Miller of Warrensville, North Carolina; three brothers, Jack Roberts, J.L. Roberts and Johnny Roberts, all of Mountain City, Tennessee. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Toots will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2004 from the Doe Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Dowell and Rev. J.C. Greene to officiate. Music will be provided by nephew, Jamie Roberts and the Doe Valley Baptist Church Choir. Military Graveside Services and Interment will follow in the Roberts Cemetery and will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers will be: David Isaacs, Don Roberts, Gary Roberts, Kevin Proffitt, Darrell Proffitt and Glen Painter. Honorary Pallbearers are: Members of the Johnson County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. Saturday, prior to Services, at the Church. At other times, friends may call at the residence of brother, J.L.
