Thurston B. Gregg, age 76, of 235 Hemlock Street, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2005 at his residence. He was born in Johnson County, Tennessee on September 27, 1928 to the late Clint Rex Gregg and Effie Dessie Evans-Gregg. In addition to his parents, Thurston was preceded in death by one brother, Noel Delmas Gregg. Thurston was a Retired Tennessee State Trooper, former General Sessions Court Judge in Johnson County, a Charter Member of the Johnson County Rescue Squad, a Member of the Mountain City Fire Department and a World War II Army Veteran. Thurston was a member of the Sugar Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by Patricia Janice Gregg of Orange, Virginia; three sons, Michael T. Gregg and wife Eva, Jessie B. Gregg and wife Karin, all of Mountain City, Tennessee and Terry P. Gregg and wife Faye of Butler, Tennessee; one sister, Darlena Malecki and husband Stanley of Clark Lake, Michigan; one brother, Doyle Gregg and wife Doris of Bristol, Tennessee; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Thurston will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Janaury 24, 2005 from the Sugar Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Greene and Rev. Doug Ranshaw to officiate. Military Graveside Services will follow from the Sugar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery and will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers will be: Jack Cress, Roger Gentry, John Henson, Jerry Proffitt, Eddie Tester and Don Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers are: Jess Arnett, Roy Rash, Mike Reece, Bill Sowder, Claude Strange and Jim Tester. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 23, 2005 from the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home Chapel. At other times, friends may call at the residence, 235 Hemlock Street, Mountain City, Tn 37683. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Johnson County Rescue Squad, 203 Vandilla Street, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683. The family will meet at 12:00 p.m. on Monday at Hux-Lipford Funeral Home to go in procession to the Sugar Grove Baptist Church.
