Venia Clawson, age 80, of the Abernathy Center in Newton, North Carolina, formerly of Mountain City, Tennessee passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2008 in Hospice House of Catawba County. She was the daughter of the late Newt Leffler and Floy Cornett Pierce. Ms. Clawson was a member of Spencer Road Baptist Church. She loved the outdoors and her hobbies included canning and gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Lipford and one daughter, Dixie Tester.
Survivors include: two daughters: Glenda Parsons of Oxford, PA and Donna Yelton and husband Robert of Hickory, NC; five sons: Glenn Lipford and wife Phyllis of Mountain City, Tn; Charles Lipford of Hickory, NC; Richard Lipford and wife Donna of Conover, NC; Tom Lipford and wife Jeanne of Conover, NC; and Jody Clawson of Oak Ridge, TN; one sister: Leona Warren and husband Jack of Mountain City, TN; one brother: B.J. Davis and wife Lucy of Richmond, VA; seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews and special friend, Mary Myres also survive.
Funeral services for Venia Clawson will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2008 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral with Rev. Rick Fox officiating. Music will under the direction of Robert Yelton. Graveside service and interment will follow in Wilson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Keith Jones, Jr., Glenn Maverick Lipford III, Robert Yelton, Tom Lipford, Jr., Joshua Lipford, Jody Clawson, Allen Conner and Matt Lipford. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the services.
At other times friends may call at the home of her son, Glenn Lipford, Jr., 600 Wilson Avenue, Mountain City, TN.
