Vergie Church, age 92, of 1097 Shingletown Road, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away Monday, October 6, 2008 in Watauga Medical Center, Boone, North Carolina after an extended illness. She was the daughter of Samuel Benjamin Greer and Rosie Caroline Tolliver Greer. Ms. Greer was a retired employee of Burlington Mills. She was a member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church. Ms. Church loved cooking and communicating and visiting with friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Church; one sister, Cordie Greer; and six brothers: Elmer Glen Greer, Letcher Greer, Ruben Greer, Stacy Greer, Walter Greer, and Elmer Greer.
Survivors include: one daughter: Carolyn Church Luzader and husband Kenneth of Alvarado, TX; one son: Kenneth “Kenny” Church and wife Jannifer of Spring Hill, TN; three grandchildren: Christopher Thomas, Scott Luzader and Kara Church Williams; seven great grandchildren: Christopher Thomas, Kristen Thomas, Kimberly Thomas, Kenna Luzader, Kallan Luzader, Jacob Williams and Connor Williams; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Mary Ellen Widner and In Memory, Hazel Reid.
Funeral services for Ms. Vergie Church will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008 from Wesley Chapel Methodist Church with Rev. Steve McCready officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow in Stateline Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Christopher Thomas, Scott Luzader, Terry Reid, Boyd Greer, Jeff Greer and Tony Greer. Honorary pallbearers will be Mountain City Care Center; Dr. Raina Sluder, Patsy Robinson, Betty Ann Reid, Ann McElyea, Lou Dowell, Norma Reid, and Jan Greer. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2008 at Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home.
