Verna Mae Asberry Meadows

Verna Mae Asberry Meadows, age 85, of, Mountain City, Tennessee, and formally of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at the Watauga Medical Center, Boone, North Carolina. She was born on September 28, 1920 in Johnson County, Tennessee to the late Robert and Ada Owens Asberry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Lee Meadows Sr; two sisters: Dorothy Roberts and Adeline Asberry and two brothers: Hamilton Asberry and Earl Asberry. Verna was a former employee of Lois' Restaurant and a homemaker. She enjoyed crafts and quilting. She was a member of the "Hardee's Morning Club" and loved spending time with her family, friends and especially her grandchildren. Verna was a member of New Zion Faith Center. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Patsy and Jesse Farley of DelBarton, West Virginia, Alice and Phillip Puschel of New Castle, Delaware, Betty and Rick Edwards of Butler, Tennessee; two sons and daughters-in-law: Johnny and Kay Meadows of Wilmington, Delaware and Harvey Lee Jr. and Shirley Meadows of Warwick, Maryland; one sister, Grace Asberry Snyder of Avondale, Pennsylvania; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, special friend, Edward Eller and her special dog, Sassy. Funeral Services for Verna Mae Asberry Meadows will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 2006 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home of Mountain City, Tennessee, with Rev. Ernest Widby to officiate. Music will be under the direction of the New Zion Faith Center Choir. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. prior to the Services at Hux-Lipford Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be conducted from the Silver Brook Cemetery, Wilmington, Delaware. Pallbearers will be: Grandsons and Great Grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Friends of the "Hardee's Morning Club" At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of a daughter, 330 McQueen Street, Butler, Tennessee 37640. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Verna to the New Zion Faith Center, 127 Garden Drive, Johnson City, Tennessee 37604.
