Verna M Dowell

Verna M. Dowell, age 94, of 674 Forge Road, Mountain City, TN passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the residence of her son in Kingsport, TN. She was born February 27, 1920 in Shouns, TN to the late Wesley Dunn and Emma Roark Dunn. She worked with her husband on the farm, worked at Blue Ridge Shoe Plant where she retired after 16 years, was a housewife and mother. Verna was a member of Appalachian Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading, gardening, her flower garden, quilting and especially enjoyed the outdoors. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lester Dowell; three brothers: Jasper Dunn, Cecil T. Dunn and Victor Dunn; a very special friend Jackie Horne; and niece's husband Edward Wyatt. Survivors include: son: Ronnie Dowell and wife Jenny of Kingsport, TN; granddaughter: Mikki Dowell Vinson and husband Jeff of Madison, AL; grandson: Jeff Dowell and wife Reese of Jacksonville, FL; great grandsons: Jaxon Vinson, Brooks Vinson, Tyler Dowell and Nolan Dowell; special friends: Shirley Lipford, Grace Muse, Faye Hall, Lois Johnson Lipford, Christine Trivette, Mae Johnson and Hettie Icenhour and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Verna M. Dowell will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2014 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Mr. Buddy Morefield and Mr. Jay Cline officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Active pallbearers will be Boyd Dunn, Lane Dunn, Chuck Lavering, Gary Mills, Bill Dunn, Mike Taylor, Buford Lipford, Brandon Dunn and Russ Poteet. Honorary pallbearers will be Herman Trivette, J.D. Trivette, Chuck Jenkins, Hugh Parker, Dean Gouge, Dr. John Payne, Gregg Dunn, Victor Dunn, Ronnie Dunn, Larry Dunn and Randy Glenn.
