Verna Hazel "Pat" Roberts, age 85, of 1315 Slabtown Road, Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at the Watauga Medical Center, Boone, North Carolina following an extended illness. She was born in Johnson County, Tennessee on December 25, 1920 to the late John Robert and Isabell Gentry Jones. In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore "Toots" Roberts, who passed away September 2, 2004; two sisters: Eula B. Jones and Nora L. Patton and one brother, Oliver Jones. Pat was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary #61 and the Ladies of the VFW #6908. She was a former employee of the Johnson County Senior Citizen Center and Arney's Grill and had also sold Raleigh Products. Pat was a member of the Doe Valley Baptist Church and had assisted with Vacation Bible School for many years. She was also a member of the church choir and WMU. She enjoyed quilting and going shopping. Pat is survived by her nephew, Bob Tyree and wife Linda of Mountain City, Tennessee; four sisters-in-law: Lois Wilson, Peggy Hawkins, Eva Horne, all of Mountain City, Tennessee and Dorothy Miller of Warrensville, North Carolina; two brothers-in-law: J.L. Roberts and Johnny Roberts, both of Mountain City, Tennessee; great nephews: Wesley Andrew Tyree of Phoenix, Arizona and Kevin Brian Tyree of Portland, Orgeon; great-great nephew: Connor Tyree, both of Portland, Oregon and special friends: Vennie Stout and Sissy Stout. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services for Verna Hazel "Pat" Roberts will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 7, 2006 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Mr. Roy Dowell and Mr. Richard Stout to officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the Services. Private Graveside Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2006 from the Phillippi Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Men of the Doe Valley Baptist Church and Members of the VFW and American Legion Post.
