Violet Manuel Miller

Ms. Violet Manuel Miller, age 77, of 8527 Hwy 421 N, Shady Valley, TN passed away Monday, November 28, 2011 in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, VA. She was a daughter of the late Coy W. and Margaret Henderson Manuel. Violet loved going to church, cooking and especially loved watching the Tennessee Vols and Titans. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Phyllis M. Blevins. She is survived by her husband, Howard C. Miller, of the home; one daughter: Robin Fletcher of Shady Valley; two sons: Walter Scott "Scotty" Gentry and Carroll Maurice Miller, both of the home; one sister: Vivian Manuel Martin and one brother: Harold Paul Manuel and wife Sue, all of Sutherland, TN; two granddaughters: Dawn Tester and husband Jeff and Karen Fletcher, both of Mountain City, TN; one great-granddaughter: Cailie Tester; and four great-grandsons: Jacob Fletcher, Nick Fletcher, Blake Tester and Andrew Taylor. Several nieces, nephews, and special friends Dora Cable and John Grindstaff also survive. Funeral services for Violet Manuel Miller will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 1, 2011 from the Shady Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Harry Cunningham officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m.-6:45 p.m. Thursday prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2011 from Shady Valley Memorial Gardens, Shady Valley, TN. Active pallbearers will be Jacob Fletcher, Nick Fletcher, John Grindstaff, Chris Manuel, Marty Manuel, Brian Swayne and Jeff Tester. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Shady Valley Baptist Church, Timothy McKindley and Dr. Timothy McGarry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shady Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Shady Valley, TN 37688.
