Mrs. Wave Snapp McEwen, age 91, of Limestone, Tennessee passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at John M. Reed Nursing Home. Mrs. McEwen was born February 22, 1917 in Limestone, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Ray Snapp and Dora R. Snapp. She was a member of Doe Valley Methodist Church for a number of years. She went to Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina and then to ETSU where she received a B.S. degree in education. She did some graduate studies at Appalachian State Teacher's College in Boone, North Carolina. She taught school for over 40 years in Tennessee and North Carolina.
Mrs. McEwen was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. McEwen; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Orell and Mary Snapp and Lester and Frances Snapp; one sister and brother-in-law: Alta and Orval Foster; three nephews: Paul H. Snapp, Harold Snapp and Robert Snapp.
Survivors include several nieces and a nephew and their children. Nieces: Janette Foster Guinn of Johnson City, Tennessee and her two sons; Jean Snapp Larkin and her husband Will of Pinehurst, North Carolina and their daughter and son; Rena Hensley and her husband S. G. of Limestone, Tennessee and their two sons; Jenny Kaye Keebler and her husband Doug of Bowmantown, Tennessee. Nephew: Rhea Franklin Snapp and his wife Mildred of Limestone, Tennessee and their daughter and son. Niece Blonda Snapp of Greeneville, Tennessee also survives.
Jean Larkin, Paul and Blonda Snapp, and Rhea and Mildred Snapp have been kind caretakers for Mrs. McEwen during her later years at John M. Reed Nursing Home in Limestone, Tennessee and Morningside of Greeneville, Tennessee.
Funeral services for Mrs. McEwen will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2008 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Don Everhart officiating. Graveside service and interment will be in Shoun-McEwen Cemetery following services. Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her former students and the staff of John M. Reed Nursing Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Doe Valley Methodist Church, Mountain City, Tennessee.
