Obituary for: William E. “Cowboy Bill” Newcomb.
William E. “Cowboy Bill” Newcomb, age 95, of 2575 Crossroads Drive, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away Friday, July 4, 2008 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tennessee. He was a native of Potosí, Missouri. He was the son of the late William Newcomb and Ethel Debois, in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Michael Newcomb and one brother Lawrence Newcomb.
Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mountain City. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in both the U.S. Navy and Merchant Marines, serving aboard both the U.S.S. Mississippi and the U.S.S. Arizona. He was a former radio star on W.L.S. where he was known and loved as “Cowboy Bill Newcomb”. Later in life he worked with Ventura Flood Control in Ventura, California. His hobbies included making jewelry.
He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Isabella Toler Newcomb of the home, one daughter, Shirli Howell, of Sugar Grove, North Carolina; three stepdaughters: Gail Howarth of Ventura, California, Susan Kelenfy of Gainsville, Georgia, and Carla Franklin of Johnson City, Tennessee; two sons: William L. Newcomb of Lakeville, Indiana and Patrick Newcomb of Salome, Arizona; one niece: Sandy Richards of Denver, Colorado. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for William E. “Cowboy Bill” Newcomb will be conducted Monday, July 7, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Mountain City with Rev. Ricky Campbell and Rev. Norm Reece officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral services from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.
