William Paul Woodard, age 68, of 685 Rhea Road, Mountain City, TN passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Johnson County Community Hospital. He was born November 11, 1945 to the late David "Dave" and Verna Woodard. He was a United States Marine veteran having served in Vietnam and was a Purple Heart recipient. William was a member of Stout Hill Church of Christ. He was a member of the VFW and he enjoyed woodworking, studying and reading his Bible. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother: Joe Woodard; two half brothers: Fred Woodard and Roby Woodard; and one half sister: Ruth Icenhour and a brother-in-law: Joe Williams. Survivors include: his wife of 43 years, Peggy Morefield Woodard, of the home; two sons: Billy Joe Woodard and Michael E. Woodard, both of Mountain City, TN; and one daughter: Julie Woodard Thomas and husband Brian of Damascus, VA; two grandsons: Boone Thomas, age 8, and Briar Thomas, age 6, both of Damascus, VA; brothers: John Woodard and sister-in-law Bonnie Woodard of Knoxville, TN; Albert Woodard and sister-in-law Nancy Woodard of Mount Lebanon, SC; Baxter Woodard and sister-in-law Evelyn Woodard of Rutherford, NC; Mac Woodard and sister-in-law Fay Woodard of Mountain City, TN; sisters: June Williams of Mountain City, TN and Ann Hazlett and brother-in-law John Hazlett of Fayette Valley, NC; special friend Otto Main and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for William Paul Woodard will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014 from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Ministers Buddy Morefield and Donnie Cable officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Military graveside service accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard and interment will follow in Morefield Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dean Townsend, Bubba Cannon, Rick Townsend, Danny Cannon,Don Manuel and Jerry Hicks.
