William "Randy" Bowers, age 64, of Bristol, TN passed away on Monday, February 7, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. Randy was born in Bristol a son to the late Bill and Edna Vance Bowers and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a graduate of Holston Valley High School and began working at Weaver Funeral Home when he was 14 years old. After a serving his country in the United States Air Force he returned to Weaver Funeral Home where he worked as co-owner and manager. Randy was active in the Tennessee Funeral Director's Association in which he served as President in 1987-88 and on various committees over a 25 year span. He was also one of the founding members of the Tennessee Independent Funeral Group and had served on its board on directors since its inception. He served his community with his tireless work as a funeral director and as a member of the Civitan Club. Mr. Bowers was a charter member of Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and a former chairman of the Cemetery commission. Survivors include: Wife of 43 years Brenda Townsend Bowers Daughters - Pam Ownby and husband Daniel and their children Cade, Carson, and Camden, Randi Searcy and husband Jason and their daughter Isla. Siblings - Ed Bowers and wife Mary Ellen, Donna Watson and husband Bill, and Mary Lou Sorah Several Nieces and Nephews Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 1 pm at Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church with Dr. Rick Light officiating. Interment will follow at Eastern Heights Cemetery with Rev. Scott Price officiating. Pallbearers include: Cliff Roark, Ike Lowry, Roger Grizzell, Wayne Stophel, Sam Witcher, and Alan Searcy. Honorary pallbearers will be Elders and Deacons at Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church and all TFDA members. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Weaver Funeral Home.
